Toyota Kirloskar Motors India, subsidiary of Japan based world's largest car maker Toyota Motors, is eying to launch a diesel version of its popular luxury sedan Corolla Altis by August 2010. The diesel version of Corolla Altis model is long awaited in India, and now it seems like company has realized the growing demand for the diesel run luxury sedans in India. Interestingly, the news came at a time when Honda, an arc rival of Toyota Motors in its domestic market, is widely speculated to be developing a diesel version of its popular sedan Honda City for Indian market.
As India is an emerging market for Toyota, it will keep on rolling out new models as well as variants. To begin with, the company is looking at launching the diesel version of Corolla Altis by August this year. All the details will be shared once the model is introduced, said a company official, in a statement given to a leading on-line media group.
The new diesel-run Corolla Altis model is believed to be powered with a 1.4L turbo-diesel engine and is speculated to be launched with a segment leading fuel-economy of 21.42 km per litre, however, there is no confirmation from the company's side on this regard so far. At present, the Toyota Corolla Altis model is giving a tough competition to its competitors of this segment in India, which includes Honda Civic, Chevrolet Optra Magnum, Skoda Laura and Fiat Linea. Globally, the Corolla Altis model has become one of the most sought-after luxury sedan with over 35 million units of this car sold till year 2007.
